  • Short Vitae

Associate Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at UC3M, I am Director of the Doctoral Program in Aerospace Engineering (https://uc3m-phd-aerospace.es/) and member of the research group in Aerospace Engineering (https: //aero.uc3m.es/), from where I lead the UC3M Aeronautical Operations Laboratory (https://aircraftoperationslab.com/). I have been visiting scholar at ETH Zürich and the U.C. Berkeley, and visiting Professor at MIT. I am currently developing two lines of research: 1) the application of artificial intelligence techniques to problems related to aeronautical meteorology, air traffic management, and climate change; 2) the optimization of aircraft trajectories and climate change. Since I joined UC3M, I am or have been PI of 17 competitive projects (9 European, 3 of them as coordinator) and I have directed or am directing 13 doctoral theses. I have published >40 JCR articles, 3 book chapters and >50 articles in conference proceedings (up to date record at http://www.aerospaceengineering.es/publications/), many of these publications in international collaboration. I have a marked vocation for communication and transfer of results, highlighting: the open ClimaCCF library, developed within the framework of FlyATM4E and ALARM SESAR projects; the dissemination activities at Researchers’ Night and/or Science Week; the dissemination of the results of the ALARM and START SESAR projects, which I have coordinated, and which include videos, radio interviews and press releases translated into several languages; and, finally, the creation of Spin-Off AI-Methods (https://www.intel-met.com/).
